Design for the Common Good

Design for the Common Good (DCG) is a website and coalition of purpose-driven networks committed to design practice, education and research that improves social, economic and environmental outcomes. This community is designed to foster collaborations and create opportunities for members to share ideas and best practices, get inspired and engage in stimulating discussions.

The site gives members the opportunity to connect with other professionals around the world with the hopes of developing ideas and cultivating relationships to further the DCG cause. Projects are added by the networks to highlight the work that is being done around the world and provides insight into the cause, method and impact of each project.

PROJECT DETAILS
We worked with the founding networks to create site that allows like minded individuals to connect, share and collaborate with one another. The site boasts it’s own social platform with a free registration policy that is moderated by the founding members. The moderation is part of a vetting and verification process for security and quality purposes.

There are a lot of moving parts involved in creating a site of this magnitude. A big part of this project was planning the technologies that were to be used to solve some key issues: Social platform/functionality, advanced user management, an events management system, integration with communication tools (e.g. Zoom) for local connections and live streaming events, and building an intuitive back-end to ensure the point person for each foundation can easily update and add to the site.

With all of the solutions in place development went rather smoothly and the site was launch just in time for the new year. The first DCG conference was a huge success and plans are underway for the next round of updates, marketing prep for the next conference and a roadmap to expand user engagement.
